MU Writes to New DCMS Secretary of State Highlighting Impacts of Brexit and Covid-19

The Musicians’ Union has written to the new Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Nadine Dorries MP, highlighting ongoing challenges MU members are facing.

The letter highlights the twin impacts of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic on musicians’ ability to work, asking the new Secretary of State for a meeting at the earliest opportunity.

The letter also calls for support for musicians and music creators in efforts to fix streaming, and expresses the hope that work on bullying, harassment and discrimination in the music industry started by Caroline Dinenage MP will continue.

MU General Secretary Horace Trubridge said:

“We hope the new Secretary of State accepts our call for a meeting at this crucial time for the UK’s musicians.

“Top of our agenda will be urging the government to continue to help musicians recover from the serious damage done to the profession by the pandemic, and the huge problems our members now face in accessing European countries for gigs and tours.”
